About me

Me in Valencia, Spain

Hi guys! My name is Anna. I know there must be many people out there like me. Wanting to let go of the work that doesn’t please you any more or even worse, is making you unhappy. Wanting to escape the “el invierno, es infierno” kind of weather (cold, that is). Or maybe you just want to have an adventure. See where the unknown road takes you. Away from the familiar.

That’s what I did a year and a half ago anyway. I’m a 30 something woman from Finland who has always had a thirst for travel. I have been coming to Thailand for a long time, spending some cold, European winter months here. People are always asking me how I’m able to do it or how do I make the money. Or “I wish I could do the same.” Well, I can tell you. It’s possible.  You just need to want it bad enough and let go of the comfy and stable life at home.

I love living overseas (Australia and UK previously) so I had to start making arrangements and plans on how I could live here. Actually, I am still not 100% sure how all this will happen and if I will be able to get enough income to support myself and Chase, my lovely Thai mix dog, but I also believe it is possible. If you keep on reading these posts I’m sure you will find out eventually…

A lonely hammock on Koh Phangan

A lonely hammock

I finished my TEFL course in December 2017 and that landed me a teaching job (though I decided to teach Social Studies) in Rayong. Nowadays you can also give lessons online if you have found your paradise and prefer living there. Moreover, thanks to the World Wide Web, there are vast opportunities for earning some money online and freelancing. And yes, my IT skills are close to zero. So this will be a long struggle which I will eventually win. Hopefully.

My home away from home is this tropical island called Koh Phangan and I want to tell you a little bit more about it. In fact, another blogger, Migrating Miss interviewed me already so I could tell a little bit what it’s like to be an expat on Koh Phangan and in Thailand. The link is here if you want to read it.

There are plenty of yoga schools around and I did ashtanga vinyasa yoga teacher training here in February 2017. I tried to write as much as possible about the teacher training, though those 4 weeks were very hectic. In the future, I will try to visit the yoga schools on the island and describe what kind of classes they have and how I liked them.

Because of my quest for new places, I will be travelling outside of Thailand and SE Asia as well (depending on the financial situation, though, errrmmmm…) Anyway, let’s see where this road takes me. I have no idea where I will be next year this time. Hopefully, it will be somewhere warm, though 😉

The road less travelled…
